Instagram Diaries: March

I have just finished an assignment that has been driving me absolutely bonkers, so I thought I'd do a quick post before the next assignment swallows me, and my creativity, whole.
Here is my March through photos. Other than hours at my desk, I read a few books and RUSSH, bought some things in tune with the burgundy and black theme this winter, snuggled with my cat, ate too much porridge, welcomed the cooler days and nights with thick socks and thigh-highs, drank tea out of my bottomless mug, and broke my no-crappy food rule. Countless times. x

Student life

Being a student is difficult in many ways. Those who are lucky (or perhaps not so lucky) live with their parents, granting them home-cooked meals, hugs and allowances. Those like me who live independently in a house, very far away from my parents, are lucky in the sense that we have a sense of freedom and autonomy, but it comes at a high cost. I have to make and live off my own unsatisfactory student income, cook my own meals, make my own scary, big decisions, and mum-hugs are literally over 15, 000 kms away. (Thankfully my boyfriend's arms are constantly open for me.) Those who live away from home, but still get home-cooked meals, hugs and money from their parents are in a completely different league and I can tell you now, I am seething with jealousy. Don't you complain for a second!
Anyway, regardless of your living circumstance, we students have a tough time: those damned assignments, lack of sleep and social interaction, high-stress levels, and if you're like most students, -- and here comes the crux of this post -- lack of money, which naturally translates to lack of new clothing and the inability to purchase clothes you love.
Well, here's to those who scroll through e-boutiques and style blogs saying, 'I wish I owned that,' and 'Ah, to be in possession of that [..]'. I myself tend to say, 'How the fruitcake can these people afford these nice, costly clothes?! Damn you.' but I'll keep it tame.
However, being a student also rules, but I feel like being pessimistic so this post will remain biased.

Hope everyone is doing well and to all those who are students, I hope uni isn't being too much of a pain in the buttocks. x

Christophe Lemaire

I'm loving so much that's coming out of FW12 and I wanted to show you this collection by Christophe Lemaire.
There's so much to enjoy here for me. First, it's simple, and as you can probably tell, minimalistic fashion is the way I tend to lean. I also adore pieces that, while remaining feminine, have masculine and strong notes. In this collection, Lemaire aces tweed by making it look luxurious and also easy to wear. Rich burgundy tones paired with black is definitely a winning combination that is also very simple to recreate affordably.

Happy Autumn

When it comes to the beginning of Autumn, there are two different kinds of people. Those who look to their frayed, cut-off denim shorts, crop tops and summer dresses and weep, and those who look to their jeans, boots and thick duvets and cry in delight. I am of those in the latter.
This doesn't mean I don't enjoy Summer. I love the balmy sun and the beach and the picnics and the reading in the backyard, but I love winter more. Or should I add, an Australian winter. A northern hemisphere winter is a completely other story, and I imagine I would be in the former, but who knows?
I revel in the fact that soon I will be clutching my fluffy duvet close to my chest as the cold sets in and sipping on tea (and not in a fluster while doing so) as I read with icy fingers. I also love the fact that winter allows so much more variety in regards to fashion, in my opinion. Boots; thick, long socks; jeans; sweaters and jackets; and layers! Oh, layers.
Also, the fact that an Australian winter also permits us to wear the aforementioned typical summer attire, albeit with tights, is another reason I prefer winter. You can't wear thick layers in summer, but you can wear a summer dress with thigh high socks and a jacket in winter.
Anyway, I'll shut up now. Here is what I got in the mail this morning from ASOS: Colour Block Denim shirt, Black Fedora hat, and Wool Thigh High socks.
A perfect welcoming to the cooler months!
